| Part of my drive train conversion
involved using a Dana-18 transfer case in place of the Rover unit. The Dana-18 features a drum parking brake mounted on the rear output shaft, just like the Rover unit does. But the Dana one is operated via a cable, not mechanically like the Rover. I could not determine a satisfactory method of converting the Dana to a mechanical linkage so I converted my Rover to cable. To accomplish this task I used a parking brake lever from a Range Rover Classis and its cable. I have a Tuffy box instead of a center seat, but this would still work with the center seat in place. I have moved my seats to the rear 6" to give myself more leg room, but this parking lever would still work with the stock location. |

to the seat box.
The front end goes through the thicker portion along the edge of the box. This is sufficiently strong to support the brake as you pull up on it. The rear half gets bolted down to the top of the seat box, I used a large fender washer on the under side. A 1.25" hole needs to be drilled in the top of the seat box to make room for the cable and cable guide. After installing the handle it was a simple matter to attach the cable. |
